World Economic Forum president Borge Brende admits lying about contacts with Jeffrey Epstein

Borge Brende, the President and CEO of the World Economic Forum, has tendered his resignation, marking a significant fall from grace for the man who steered the world’s most exclusive economic summit for nearly a decade.

The resignation was triggered by an internal crisis of credibility after DOJ-leaked documents exposed recurring social interactions between Brende and the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Despite initial denials issued as recently as November, Brende was forced to admit to several high-level meetings that took place long after Epstein’s criminal history was a matter of public record.

The fallout at the WEF is not an isolated incident; it signifies a broader institutional contagion. Brende’s departure follows the forced resignations of academic heavyweight Larry Summers from Harvard and Hyatt’s Thomas Pritzker, creating a domino effect across the global establishment. While the WEF’s board insists that an independent review cleared the organization of deeper systemic failures, the discovery of direct correspondence between the President and Epstein made Brende’s position untenable. In his farewell statement, Brende framed his exit as a sacrifice for the Forum’s «important work,» effectively shielding the organization from further scrutiny as it prepares for a post-Brende era in Geneva.
